All our furniture has been treated with a non-toxic chemical preservative that protects it against moisture, insect infestation, and fluctuations in humidity. It has also been finished with a light traveling coat of vegetable-based oil.
Exposure to sunlight and changes in temperature and humidity may cause the wood to shrink and minor cracks may appear. These are natural features of hardwood.
When you first remove the furniture from the carton, areas of the surface may appear dull, dry or patchy. This is an indication that the traveling coat of oil has been completely absorbed. If this has occurred, apply an additional coat or two of marine or vegetable-based oil such as Tung or linseed oil, let dry completely, and buff to shine using a soft, dry cloth.
Please follow these simple treatment steps immediately before storing your furniture for the winter months:
Using a fine grade sandpaper, remove any loose surface scale and wipe clean;
(Please note that heavier petroleum-based oils such as teak oil ARE NOT recommended)
Regular care and maintenance will keep your furniture in excellent condition for years to come.
